Parenting Coordination
Parenting Coordination
A Parenting Coordinator (PC) is appointed by the Court to act as a judge, making decisions about custody issues as specified in the appointment order. The range of the PC’s authority will vary case to case. Having Ms. Wald appointed by the Court as a PC can greatly reduce the amount of time you spend in court, protect your children from ongoing parental conflict, and expedite important parenting decisions. When appropriate, Ms. Wald works closely with psychologists in order to offer a combined approach of co-parenting and parenting coordination.
In this model, the parents work with an experienced co-parenting counselor to improve communication and resolve whatever issues they can. If the parents do not come to full agreement during the co-parenting counseling process, the psychologist will provide Ms. Wald with an account of the custody issues in writing, including a list of agreements reached and a second list of issues on which the parents could not agree, all without the psychologist’s opinions or recommendations. Ms. Wald then will give the parents an opportunity to present their perspectives on each of the unresolved issues and will render a decision.
As Parenting Coordinator, Ms. Wald’s decisions will be filed with the Court and carry the weight of Court Orders. This process allows the parents to have disagreements resolved in a fair and objective manner without the inefficiencies inherent in the court system, saving time, aggravation and money.
